Obituary of John Ramsdell

A 30 year resident of Hudson, Ohio, John L. Ramsdell , 76, died peacefully at home on Dec. 28, 2009 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse, New York on Aug.  1, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry & Margaret Ramsdell.  After earning a degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred State University, he went on to enjoy a career in sales at North American Manufacturing Company,  where he served as the V.P. of Engineering.  Retiring in 1995, he became an Akron City Hospital Volunteer, a tutor for troubled youth at the Summit County Youth Development Center, an avid golfer and world traveler.  

Preceded in death by his wife Marilyn in 2004, he is survived by daughters Catherine (Jerry) Livadas of Stow, Susan Ramsdell of Akron, and beloved grandchild, Alexandra Livadas, a.k.a “Squirt”; his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend and travel companion, Linda Riley, who held a very special place in his heart.

The family would like to take this opportunity to offer their heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers of Home Helpers and Summa Hospice.  

Friends may call Friday, Jan.  1, 2010, 4 to 7 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home, where Pastor Jim Case will conduct a service Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.  Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Summit County, 190 South Maple Street, Akron, Ohio 44302 or the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
