Obituary of Kathe Kirstein

Kathe Kirstein, 94, died June 25, 2018.

Born in Stralsund, Germany, given name Katirina Hedwig Johanna Alwine Berwald, she shortened her name in 1951 when she immigrated to Akron, Ohio.  She retired as a candy maker from Grabham’s Candies in 1987 after 27 years of employment.  She was an active member of the Bethany United Church of Christ and the Cuyahoga Falls Order of the Eastern Star.
 
She is preceded in death by her soulmate, best friend, and husband Fritz; son-in-law, Terry Garner; sister, Freda; sister-in-law, Freda Carson; and brother-in-law, Sylvester Schultz. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Garner; son, Kenneth (Judy) Kirstein; sister, Erika; and niece, Gabreila, still in Germany; sister-in-law, Lottie Schultz; nieces, Nancy Schultz, Kathy Wetzel and Janet Fankhauser; nephews, Mike Carson, Harry (Linda) Carson and Jeff Carson; her dog, Little Dude; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
 
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the home health aides who provided 24-hour care in the past year; Crossroads Hospice for all the care and support they provided; RN Debbie and aide Megan, for their compassionate care; Pastor Matt, who sang to her every time he visited; and to Munroe Falls Police and Fire for their care, devotion, and friendship throughout the years.
 
Pastor Sprite Johnson will conduct service Friday, June 29 at 11 AM at Redmon Funeral Home, where friends may call from 9:30 AM until service time.  OES service will also be held Friday at 10:45 AM. Burial Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
